It’s the little things

So I splurged and bought myself some “real” hair scrunchies. Yep, frittered away $5 on a dozen fabric-covered ponytail holders. But oh they are so nice and comfortable. Why the hell I worry so much about the fact I hate my hair is beyond me, I can’t stand to not have it in a ponytail.

My Tivo must have a sense of humor. I have it fairly well-trained, but on occasion it records a suggestion that makes me think WTF? As I’m perusing the list of brain rot at my disposal, there sits “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica” as a Tivo suggestion. W-T-F?! When have I ever watched/recorded/thumbs-upped anything that even closely resembles this show? I’d rather have an enema while having an ice pick shoved in my eye while listening to Michael Bolton’s Greatest Hits while having my fingernails ripped of slowly than watch that show. I’m convinced that Mr Tivo was playing a joke on me.

Emma, Reid and I have become those weirdos that walk everywhere lately. You know the ones, where you always see them walking the same path, perpetually carrying a bright yellow Dollar General Store bag? Well, that’s us now. Instead of asking Scott to pick something up from the grocery store on his way home from work, I pack up the kids and hoof it to the little store in town. It’s fun really, and good exercise. It’s takes us about 10 minutes or so each way. Reid cackles at all the dogs he sees in everybody’s yard and says “pup-pup.” Emma and I chat about her day at school usually.

So, today we needed a few things for Emma’s lunchbox and some chicken for dinner. We took our walk to the “shopping plaza” in town. But first we went to good old Dollar General, had to get some blank video tapes to get Reid’s favorite episodes off the Tivo (there’s Tivo again, and yes it’s an integral part of our life), and we found some VeggieTales VHS tapes for $3 each…SCORE! Both the kids love Veggies and Emma was giddy to be able to choose three of them. Then Emma finds a flashlight with a plastic head of Sulley (from Monsters, Inc, another of Reid’s faves) that glows for $3. Reid is instantly in love. He’s crazy over flashlights, namely blinding himself with them and then laughing hysterically. (He gets that from Scott’s side of the family.) So, this was perfect. A flashlight with an easy-to-push button, and he can’t blind himself with it because the light is lovingly protected by the severed head of Sulley. He didn’t put it down until he went to bed. 🙂

Oh, I may have quite the windfall in my future, stay tuned! I am not going to speak of it for fear it will jinx it and make me look stupid.

Clean that dirty cheese off just for yoooouuuuuu!

Suspense in your blog! How intriguing 🙂
And, that is great that you guys are walking to the store. I am sure it is wonderful exercise and great time with your kiddos.
Plus, we all know you are secretly addicted to N&J…

    Where to begin?
    1. – I feel exactly the same way about Nick and Jessica. The way you described it was HILARIOUS!
    2. Good for you for walking! Part of what kept me thin at the old house was I walked everywhere… just put Sean in the stroller.

You had me laughing out loud with your description of the deep abiding love you harbor for Nick and Jessica. While I can admit that I find the man to be quite good looking, I just can’t tolerate the two of them.
Woo Hoo on the walking. If I’m every in the St Louis area I’ll be on the lookout for the roaming Harrison family.
